Gossip: Rossi Retires After Austrian Crash, Marini to Petronas 2021
MotoGP - Italian racer Valentino Rossi survived the incident at Turn 3 of the Red Bull Ring circuit on Sunday (16/8).
Rossi managed to escape the impact of two motorbikes at the Austrian MotoGP, M1 Franco Morbidelli (Petronas Yamaha SRT), and Desmosedici GP Johann Zarco (Hublot Reale Avintia Ducati).
The two riders collided at Turn 2 at high speed, sending the bike up to Turn 3, where Rossi and his teammate Maverick Vinales turned.
Luckily, no other racer was hit by a motorbike, including Rossi.
But this incident clearly made Rossi shocked and began to think for his safety.
Including rumors of retiring at the end of this season, it is stated that Rossi will be replaced by his own younger brother, Luca Marini in the Petronas Yamaha SRT Satellite team starting next year.
Is this theory true?
“Regarding Petronas, the idea that Rossi said to focus on Marin after the (Austria) incident cannot be ruled out.
But I'm sure Rossi will continue (in MotoGP 2021 with Petronas), ”explained Pernat in an interview with GPOne.
So, the hypothesis about Rossi retiring after surviving the incident in Austria could be true, but it is only a small possibility, while the option to continue in 2021 is still the most likely prediction.
Pernat also shared his views on another Italian rider, Andrea Dovizioso.
"There is no place in Honda for Dovi, there are two solutions; Honda uses three motorbikes, but that obviously cannot or cancels Pol Espargaro's contract, nor is it possible, "he explained.
“Maybe we can sacrifice Iker Lecuona at KTM (Tech3) and I don't deny that that could be a solution.
Then the matter of Jorge Martin will join Pramac, that's for sure, "said Pernat describing the situation of the racer transfer market for next year.
